Lanzarote is situated just 79 miles off the coast of Africa and is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. The island is 37 miles long and 12 miles wide, making it the fourth largest island in the Canaries.
Most holidays in Lanzarote tend to be based in one of the three main resort areas of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise, and each of these has a slightly different profile and personality.
Puerto del Carmen is the longest established resort, with an eclectic mix of hotels, apartment blocks, bars and nightlife. Despite the night-time focus around the ‘Strip’ (proper name Avenida de las Playas) with its many clubs and bars, it is also a popular resort for families. The nearby marina at Puerto Calero attracts many for its upmarket shops and restaurants.
Playa Blanca is a relatively new resort, and has grown up in the past 10 years around holiday villa developments that are positioned around the new Marina Rubicon and Montana Roja areas in particular. It is primarily a family holiday resort – wheras Puerto del Carmen has more apartments, Playa Blanca has more family-sized villas.
Costa Teguise is a purpose-built holiday resort. Many of the hotels here are linked to packaged holidays from the main companies, and all inclusive holidays in Lanzarote have become especially popular here.
Thanks to the islands climate Lanzarote holidays can be enjoyed at any time of the year and offers a great place within easy reach for Winter Sun.
